NHK SELECTED A O SHOW'S ARTIST AS A VIETNAMESE CULTURAL AMBASSADOR

In an episode about travelling in Ho Chi Minh City, NHK chose a female performer of A O Show, and had her introducing to Japanese viewers Saigon's lifestyle and things to do as a local. The episode was aired in March 2015 on NHK BS Premium.

Sometimes in November 2014, Junko Iizuka, Executive Producer of NHK Enterprises, Inc. was in search of an young Vietnamese talent that can represent Vietnam's youth, to introduce culture and lifestyle here to Japanese viewers. The series was called 'Journey to Heaven on Earth', aired on NHK BS Premium channel. Among all the choices she had from a fashion designer to a movie actor, she chose Nguyen Thi An, female performer of “A O Show”. She saw An's talent on stage, and was even more fascinated to find out about her contortion and circus career before A O Show. Junko believed that An would bring a fresh different perspective to her viewers.

Nguyen Thi An, one of our beloved performers, started her circus education when she was 11 in Hanoi. She is specialized in contortion. Audiences can spot her in A O Show easily with her role of being a grab in one of the scenes. The documentary also discovered another talent of her, which was making fabric flowers.

This 30-minute episode of NHK focused on travel in Ho Chi Minh City, had An introducing places to buy Ao Dai (female Vietnamese traditional dress) on Pasteur Street, shops in Ben Thanh Market for souvenirs shopping. She also showed Japanese viewers the morning activities of Vietnamese people in the park, for example doing exercises, sipping coffee while enjoying bird singing in Tao Dan Park's bird club. The program also had her and three other A O performers taking viewers to Vung Tau beach and Bach Dinh White Palace.
