VIETNAMESE BAMBOO CIRCUS IS PROUD TO HAVE VIETNAM’S FIRST PERFORMANCE AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE, ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS THEATERS

Modest, yet poetic and close to the hearts of any Vietnamese, bamboo is the central inspiration behind Vietnamese Bamboo Circus, one of a kind Vietnamese performing art that has shaken hundreds of crowds at over 200 performances in 11 countries around the globe, now proudly presented at the Sydney Opera House, one of the world’s most prestigious theaters.

From 12th to 15th of June 2019, À Ố Show, one of the most well known Vietnamese Bamboo Circus shows, will wow Australia at the Sydney Opera House through 6 sessions that promise to leave its audience in awe. For the first time, a Vietnamese art show will be introduced at the iconic theatre, stories about the cultures of different regions in Vietnam will be told, and hearts will be touched.

Unlike the traditional circus, in Vietnamese Bamboo Circus shows, vivid pieces of the Vietnamese culture are woven together masterfully by a crew of theater geniuses. Without the need for any spoken narrative, each story is told over impressive movements of acrobats, the skillful and creative use of bamboo for main tools and props. Vietnamese Bamboo Circus has become the one of a kind performing art that embodies its motherland’s culture.

Not merely reconstructing cultural activities and the everyday life in rural Vietnam, Vietnamese Bamboo Circus, through the craft of lighting, sound effects and the mise en scène, is able to also convey the spirit of folk culture and the historical characteristics of the nation. Vietnamese Bamboo Circus reach a whole new level in À Ố Show surpassing the strictest critics to perform at one of the world’s most reputable theaters.

To bring À Ố Show to life, a team of creators and performers are steeled with years of training and expertise, bringing together this blend of genres, consisting of unique acrobatic moves: juggling bamboo poles, balancing on bamboo towels, swinging in the air and somersaulting with rattan-woven boats. Just when one assumes the show’s creativity has reached its peak, the countryside village setting seamlessly transforms into an urban sprawl by juxtaposing a rhythmic rice-picking factory line with high-rise apartments and bustling traffic. Each movement works hand-in-hand, combined with the powerful force of live musicians on stage, making Vietnamese Bamboo Circus’ À Ố Show a never-before-seen, or felt, art experience.

Behind the success of an À Ố Show is the harmony in connected efforts. Each element within the multidisciplinary performance is of equal importance. The stage direction, the choreography, the bamboo movements, the overall visual art and the melody are meticulously calculated that even just a change in one factor can influence the entire act.

Among all factors, music defines the personality of the show. Although the panoply of over 20 instruments is entirely folk-based from different regions of Vietnam, as ethnic music is central to the overall theme, the contemporary essence of the show shines through when sewed with new rhythms and paired with modern choreography.

“We, the creators of Vietnamese Bamboo Circus shows, can’t be more proud that À Ố Show meets all the critical criteria of the theatre’s art committee. Being chosen to perform at Sydney Opera House is a significant movement for Vietnamese Bamboo Circus and a breathtaking lifetime experience for all of us. Beyond entertainment, Vietnamese Bamboo Circus is set on a mission to touch the hearts of Vietnamese people living far from their homeland and inspires international audiences with the essence of Vietnam’s cultural richness and beauty.” said Tuan Le, the show’s director.
