A VIETNAMESE ETHNIC MUSIC CONCERT

A Vietnamese Ethnic Music Concert, introducing the Seaphony orchestra. A unique musical experience, one night only on 12/12/2017 at Hanoi Opera House.

The Seaphony orchestra assembles over 50 artisans, musicians and composers from many ethnic groups across Vietnam, performing authentic instruments such as jaw harp, leaf flute, đàn tính, đàn goong, gongs, Baranưng drum, Gineng drum, đàn đó, etc. and powerful vocals singing soulful ethnic songs.

Seaphony sets itself apart as the first and one-of-a-kind ethnic music orchestra in Vietnam. Constructed with an unprecedented scale equal to those of established Western philharmonics, the orchestra, however, deliver unique and mesmerizing sounds thanks to the use and preservation of original ethnic instruments instead of the popular zither, gourd, violin, piano, etc.

In pursuit of creating Seaphony, throughout 2017, Nguyễn Nhất Lý and passionate fellow musicians of the S.E.A Sound project have traveled up North of Vietnam, visiting Lào Cai, Lai Châu, Sơn La, Lạng Sơn, Điện Biên, Yên Bái, Hà Giang, and tribal villages across 5 provinces in the Central Highlands, as well as Chăm villages in coastal provinces of Ninh Thuận, Bình Thuận, where remarkable artisans and authentic instruments from various ethnic groups such as Tày, Thái, Dao, H’mông, Lào, M’nong, Ede, Jarai, Sê Đăng, etc. were gathered to join the orchestra. After months of research and passionate labor, the Seaphony orchestra is proudly making its debut in the one and only ethnic music concert “ĐÊM VÔ THỨC BẢN ĐỊA” at Hanoi Opera House, on December 12, 2017. A unique, mindblowing musical experience not-to-be-missed.
